At this point in my life I’m packing up again, getting ready to leave this home that I wish I didn’t have to come back to a lot of the time. A time in a lot of our young lives where we get ready to head off to college again or for the first time, dreams and aspirations in hand. Not to mention all of my junk following behind. Each year gives me another chance to do something good/great/fun. I can’t wait to move into my room, see my old friends, make new ones, play ultimate, play drums and talk about lolcats. Not that excited to study but some classes hopefully will be fun. With all of that said I have this kind of hate/semi-love relationship with my hometown. It’s different than a love/hate because mainly I love to hate it, but at times St. James, MO is something to be proud of. Most of the time it’s full of ignorant, old, grumpy and cranky, addicted, lost, wondering, lazy, selfish, stupid, sorts of people. Still I just can’t quit my hometown. When my friends are back from their tours of duty or on break like I am, it’s fun to be in STJ and re-live the good times. The placement of St. James is perfect, right in the middle of the Ozarks. The scenery is probably the best thing about STJ. Yet still people of other races aren’t welcomed here with the most open arms, new ideas such as living green aren’t catching on, and things are as they always have been. I know they say if it’s not broke then don’t try and fix it. But the reality is a lot of things are broke in every city you go to not just St. James. I just find it harder to get change to happen in towns such as this that are so stuck in their ways. This is how our parents did it and I’m going to do it the same way…. blah blah blah, etc… etc… This is something I wonder about and get quite frustrated at my hometown. Just reading local paper’s letters to the editor will show you how a lot of people here think.
So as I head back to school in a bigger city, where new ideas and thinking different is welcomed I leave you with this… A classic symbol of a redneck town where laws don’t matter as much as everyone fitting in the back of your pickup, haha.

Is change such a bad thing, or should we stick to the ways of yesterday? Also if you need a cheap redneck bus service I’ve found the one you should call.
