An Ode To Rednecks Everywhere

At this point in my life I’m packing up again, getting ready to leave this home that I wish I didn’t have to come back to a lot of the time. A time in a lot of our young lives where we get ready to head off to college again or for the first time, dreams and aspirations in hand. Not to mention all of my junk following behind. Each year gives me another chance to do something good/great/fun. I can’t wait to move into my room, see my old friends, make new ones, play ultimate, play drums and talk about lolcats. Not that excited to study but some classes hopefully will be fun. With all of that said I have this kind of hate/semi-love relationship with my hometown. It’s different than a love/hate because mainly I love to hate it, but at times St. James, MO is something to be proud of. Most of the time it’s full of ignorant, old, grumpy and cranky, addicted, lost, wondering, lazy, selfish, stupid, sorts of people. Still I just can’t quit my hometown. When my friends are back from their tours of duty or on break like I am, it’s fun to be in STJ and re-live the good times. The placement of St. James is perfect, right in the middle of the Ozarks. The scenery is probably the best thing about STJ. Yet still people of other races aren’t welcomed here with the most open arms, new ideas such as living green aren’t catching on, and things are as they always have been. I know they say if it’s not broke then don’t try and fix it. But the reality is a lot of things are broke in every city you go to not just St. James. I just find it harder to get change to happen in towns such as this that are so stuck in their ways. This is how our parents did it and I’m going to do it the same way…. blah blah blah, etc… etc… This is something I wonder about and get quite frustrated at my hometown. Just reading local paper’s letters to the editor will show you how a lot of people here think.

So as I head back to school in a bigger city, where new ideas and thinking different is welcomed I leave you with this… A classic symbol of a redneck town where laws don’t matter as much as everyone fitting in the back of your pickup, haha.

 An Ode To Rednecks Everywhere

Is change such a bad thing, or should we stick to the ways of yesterday? Also if you need a cheap redneck bus service I’ve found the one you should call.

Photoshop Batch Watermarking

This is a first for my humble website Fire The Cannon, but it’s something I feel I should share with the world. I have been looking for how to do this for quite some time. Perhaps it’s my crappy Google search skills, or it’s just not out there. I found many ways to batch edit pictures, many ways to watermark images but none that explained very clearly how to add a batch watermarking action to Photoshop CS3. I scrounged the internet for quite some time to put together my very own action script and believe it or not I accomplished it. So below, I’m trying another first, is my screencast of how to do this with step by step directions to follow incase the video doesn’t help. Please do watch and let me know if this works for you, or if you know a better way! Thank you!

Alright this will easily and quickly let you add a watermark image to the lower right hand corner of your images. It can actually be placed anywhere that you want it as you will see in the screencast. So watch and let me know what you think. Thanks everyone!

Here is a list of how to do the same thing in the video. Make sure to hit record after step one…

#1 - Open the flyout action menu, create a set and name it. Then create an action and name it. From there hit record at the bottom of the action pallette.

#2 - Go to file, automate, then click fit image. choose 1200 x 1200 or any numbers just be consistent.

#3 - Go to image, image size. Make sure you deselect Resample. Change the resolution to 100 .

#4 - Create a new layer to put the watermark image on.

#5 - Go to file then place. Pick the watermark you want to paste (preferrably in a .PNG)

#6 - Put image in top left corner. The top left corner is the same in both vertical and horizontal pictures

#7 - Go to select, then select all. Then go to layers, align layers to selection. Pick bottom edges first. Go to the layers menu again, align layers to selection. Then pick right edges this time. Finally go to select and deselect

#8 - Go to edit, free transform and place and size your image where you want it in bottom right edge. To size your image and constrain proportions hold shift and click and drag on the corners. Hit enter when done.

#9 - Hit your layers flyout and choose flatten. Then file, save as a JPEG at %50 to make it easy to post to Flickr or send to clients. You’re almost done, make sure to hit stop at the bottom of the actions pallette to tell it to stop recording your actions.

That concludes building the script. You can now apply it to a single image, a few images, or if you want to automate that script on a whole folder of images follow below.

#10 - Go to file, automate, and choose batch.

#11 - Pick your set and action you just created, make sure to choose the override save as commands.

#12 - Choose the folders where the images are that need watermarked and then where you want those watermarked images to be saved to.

#13 - Hit OK! and watch as it adds your watermark to all your images.

I hope this makes sense and no one has trouble following these steps. Remember this is my first time trying this out. Let me know how it goes for you and if you have trouble getting it to work right. Here is a image I applied the script to.

Two Funny Twitter Videos

Hey guys, I really hate making all my 5 faithful readers wait for a new awesome post so I like to throw out these sort of mini posts to keep you having fun on the web. I’ve been working on some awesome stuff on my other websites. I’ve been trying to finish them up before school starts again. I’ve got two new podcasts up in iTunes if you’d like to check them out. The first one is at AU ULTIMATE, and the second one is at BOURGEA TEA. Are those bold enough for you? I thought so, speaking of podcasts, videos, and HD, I’ve got an awesome video for you photoshop users out there that’s coming right to this very website. If you’ve ever wanted to add an awesome watermark to your image, then also add it to a bunch of images I’ve got the how-to video coming for you. I’m very excited as I want to keep that kind of series going if I can. I’m going to atleast start adding some videos to this website as this is a website about media. I hope you like videos because they are my favorite. Speaking of video, I’ve got another plug to give to you… iPhonenuts.com I’ve created THREE videos for the website today and two of them are published. If you need iPhone tips or iPhone help then subscribe to that website, it’s AWESOME. In other news I jailbroke my iPhone today so if you’d like to know anything about that ask me and I’ll post it to iPhonenuts.com. I’ll be moving back to school on the 25th so forgive me if the website seems dead around that time period.

With all of that said, I wanted to give you two funny videos I found today that make fun of Twitter. We all know what Twitter is. Or atleast we should if you are a savvy web 2.0 user. It’s my favorite way to Microblog, I don’t even mess with those “other” services that try to mess with Twitter. I tried out Plurk but I haven’t been there in such a long time that my account is probably shut down! I love using only 144 characters to keep in touch with all my Twitter friends. Hopefully I can spread the Fail Whale at school and get my friends using it. For the time being add me at twitter.com/ryanr14, here are the videos! If you’ve got something to say, then say it, enjoy!

Bambi Refuses to Join Twitter

I love this one, such a classic but so far ahead of it’s time. It’s got two birds who are twitterpated and Bambi and his friends refuse to ever become “twitterpated”

Hitler Get’s Mad At Twitter

Classic video idea, still so funny. Poor Hitler’s dog… :(

The 5 Most Metal Muppet Videos Ever!

That’s right, you’ve read correct. I’m here to bring you the 5 most metal moments from the Muppets. For one you probably didn’t think the Muppets were this hardcore, but thanks to inventions like iMovie and Slayer the Muppets can get real heavy. Sesame street used to be all fun and games. We’d learn letters by day, but then once the kids were gone and the education was over the Muppets pumped up their Iron Maiden, and Derek Roddy.
